The Ultimate Family Picture

According to Adler, we are the artists of our own lives! We select the paints that we want to use for our picture. We are both the artist and the piece, and this can apply to any aspect of life.

In this challenge, I’d like you to draw a picture of your family. You can customise the colours, brushes, frame, brightness, darkness, and theme!

Quite a few of you have already mentioned how they would picture their family. They wish their family would have a more respectful relationship with less conflict. They would like to see their children assisting and collaborating.
Others would like for their children to be independent and kind. Every family is different and has a different set of values.

It sounds lovely, doesn’t it?
So the first thing we should be aware of is how we react to events in our daily lives.
We can be held accountable for any decisions we make and how we respond to events. For better or worse. For example, if a child nags us and demands our attention, our immediate response is……guess? Right, we’ll tell the child to stop! How can we look at this situation differently? What can we do differently this time?

WE CAN CHOOSE!

So Adler invites us to first understand our role as parents.
As parents, who are we? What is important to us? How do we want our children to grow up and become adults? What kind of people would they be?

I’ll leave you to think about this question, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Writing it down will help you shape the image of your family that you are inspired to have.

Feel free to email me and share your thoughts!
